So it all started around 4am, August 11th.... I woke up and my water had broke and I'm pretty sure it was my water because I was sleeping in a puddle! I got up to walk around and it was still coming out uncontrollable so I woke up Ryan and told him we needed to go in. So off we go at 4:30am to the hospital and we are both zombies and i'm still leaking and was soaked by the time we got to the hospital. We got me checked in, I told them my water had broke so they did a swab to confirm any amniotic fluid. It came back negative and I wasn't having any contractions so the doctor sent us home around 6am. I was really surprised it wasn't my water and it bugged me for the next couple hours because I was still leaking? I was leaking so much I had to go buy bladder control pads! Yah...not my water? not urine? hmmm what is it then? I knew in my gut it was my water but Ryan and I trusted the test results and the doctor.
So all day saturday we went on walks to get things going and I spent most of my time on my exercise ball. Still no contractions until around 4pm that day I felt my first "real" contraction! They kept getting stronger and closer together over the next couple hours but didn't get strong enough until around 4am which was exactly 24 hours later after our first hospital visit. They were getting so bad I woke Ryan and told him we needed to go! So off we go the second time and I was hoping they weren't going to send us home again because I knew for sure this time I was in labour. So there we are again in the hospital at 4:30am. They got me a bed. they were monitoring my contractions and did another swab because I was STILL leaking fluid. They sent the results to the lab and then a doctor came in to tell us that it WAS my water that had broke and that they had to induce me because my water had been ruptured longer than 24 hours!!! That didn't surprise me because I knew something wasn't right and that it was my water the entire time!!! They finally got me in a room around 10:30am to start inducing, and funny thing is my mom actually landed in Calgary around that time so she ended up being there through the whole delivery. I can't tell you how supportive Ryan and my mom were. They were with me the ENTIRE time counting me through my contractions and telling me positive things to help me get through it. RYan was so amazing the whole time, he never left my side!
After a couple more hours my contractions were getting stronger so they gave me the laughing gas, it didn't do anything for me so they gave me an epidural. Oh my goodness how amazing is an epidural! lol it saved my life, so did the shower! I went in the shower for a while too and the warm water on my tummy felt amazing and the contractions didn't feel as bad. I actually fell asleep for a while after I got the epidural. THEN out of nowhere I spiked a fever and threw up twice. They were monitoring my temperature the whole time because my water had been ruptured for so long they were worried about me getting a fever and getting an infection. But I ended up without any infection thank goodness and just had a little fever. I don't even remember having a fever I was so concentrated on my breathing through my contractions. It was around 6pm my contractions were the strongest and I started pushing. Poor little Kaden's head was stuck! I was pushing for about another two hours and his head was still stuck and I was dying so they decided they were going to an episiotomy. At that point I didn't care what they did to me to help get him out because the pressure in my back was unbearable! THe only time I actually cried was at this time during the end when the pressure was so painful I felt like my back was broken. They were getting ready to do the episiotomy and I told them to hold off because I could feel that Kaden was pushing through finally! so they didn't end up doing the episiotomy and Kaden came out not even 30 minutes later! So i'm glad we held off on that! Kaden's shoulders were so wide I ended getting a third degree tear. yikes. Good thing I was still numb from the epidural I couldn't really feel it, yet.
So after all of that eventful stuff our little Kaden came into the world and they put him right on my chest when he came out! It was the most amazing feeling ever he was looking right at me!! Ryan ended up cutting the umbilical cord like he wanted. He was pretty excited to do that! After he got all cleaned up we held him and cuddled him for a bit then I had to get stitched. After that I wanted to have a nice warm shower SO bad....this is the funny part that I actually don't remember but I went into shock when I was in the shower. My mom kept trying to talk to me and I was just sitting in the shower, pale face, not answering her. She started to freak out and her and the nurse pulled me out of the shower because I was pale as a ghost apparently. I was fine after that then we got to go to our "private" room that I ended up being in for 3 days because I was having bladder problems. I wanted to go home so bad...I hate the hospital. lol that was my very first hospital experience ever. But Kaden got to room in with me so that was special and I stayed awake all night every night just looking at him! He is the cutest thing ever!!!! We are so blessed to have him in our lives. He is such a good little guy, he's very mellow, only cries when he's hungry. We are so lucky! I'm also very proud to say he was born on his official due date! yay! All in all everything was an amazing experience and being a mom is the best thing in the world. Sorry the pictures are kinda blurry...we didn't have our good camera with us we took all these on our phones.
